  • The Air of Home
     by: Eileen Silva
    Date Posted: April 18 2006
In the chilly days of winter and early spring, we tend to spend more time indoors, shutting doors and windows against the frosty chill. Unfortunately, we don't realize that the air in our homes is constantly under attack, and without the stabilization and freshness of outside ventilation in winter, it becomes, not only stuffy and stale, but downright dangerous. Many unnoticeable factors contribute to this toxic air. Consider a quiet room with peaceful music playing, soft candlelight, and fragrance soothing the air. Sound inviting? Unfortunately, candles, especially if they are scented, release toxic soot, carcinogens, and even lead (from wire wicks), that flood the air with enough pollution to ruin computers and furnishings, as well as affect breathing. For people with asthma, lung, or heart disease, the damage is even more pronounced. Fragrance oil candles and container candles don't burn cleanly and are even more dangerous than open-flame candles. If you must burn candles, choose unscented candles with no petroleum products and wire-free wicks. For aromatherapy, choose diffusers and enjoy cleaner air.

  • The Truth About GERD And Acid Reflux Disease
     by: Anne Nickerson
    Date Posted: April 14 2006
GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is one of the most common chronic conditions out there, but it's only recently that people started to realize what it is and what a GERD symptom is. Otherwise known as acid reflux disease, GERD occurs when the muscles, or sphincters, that close the lower part of your esophagus don't work properly. Then the fluids in your stomach can leak into the esophagus and cause the acid reflux. That burning feeling in the back of your throat-one of the clearest GERD symptom-occurs because, simply, the acidic fluids from your stomach are burning the tender lining of your esophagus. That's the reason for GERD's most common nickname, heartburn. The burning sensation can sometimes feel as if it's almost happening deep in your chest cavity, near your heart.

  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - Don't Risk Your Unborn Child
     by: Anne Wolski
    Date Posted: April 18 2006
The dangers of consuming alcohol whilst pregnant have only really become fully understood in recent years. When the pregnant woman drinks alcohol, it enters the bloodstream and reduces the ability of the blood in the placenta to provide adequate oxygen to the growing fetus. The infant is born suffering from the same problems as an alcoholic and is therefore subject to withdrawal symptoms from the moment he or she is born. These symptoms include irritability, sleeplessness, and poor appetite. Around twenty percent of infants born with fetal alcohol syndrome will die shortly after birth. Those that live will have a lifetime of intellectual disability to a varying degree as well as physical disabilities.

  • Top 7 FREE Fitness Newsletters
     by: Marc David
    Date Posted: April 14 2006
I've been involved for what it seems like full-time fitness for 16 years. Over the years (certainly since 2003), I've extensively examined my own success and the success of others for "keys" to success. Why? Because I'm a big believer in this concept: ***Success Can Be Duplicated*** That depends simply upon finding a plan that works and then working the plan that you found. I'm gonna save you some time in looking. :-) I'm about to reveal my findings. You see, there are some universal keys to "making it work" with any fitness program. Now, quite obviously, I can't thoroughly explain each of them in this short article. So, what I'm going to do is list them with a brief explanation, and then provide you with a completely free resource for each of them that will give you greater insight. These are resources that I've learned wheelbarrows full of wisdom from the information contained in them. Out of the 3 billion and growing websites on the planet, you can't go wrong with these. There are seven cream of the crop online fitness newsletters...

  • Talking To Your Emotions: How To Heal Your Life Quickly
     by: Rino Soriano
What most people don't realize is that emotions are real things. The word E-Motion means energy in motion. Emotions become real the second you create them. However, where most people go wrong is they suppress them because they feel no right to have those feelings on an unconscious level. So then they bury these feelings and they sit there and grow waiting to get your full attention. These emotions become real like people and want to be honored and acknowledged. The more you ignore them, the bigger they impact your life because they want you to pay attention to them. If you keep hiding them or suppressing them, well, then they say ok...I will get your attention soon enough.

  • Addiction Treatment Centers Using Experiential Therapies
     by: Marina Petroni
Life is experience. Substance dependence overtakes a person's ability to make her own decisions to experience life, and life is no longer actively participated in. Therefore, in overcoming addiction, it is vital to learn to re-experience life. This lesson helps a treatment center resident reintegrate into the world after therapy is through. Experiential therapy is this bridge to leaving a life of substance dependency and commencing a life of health, both physical and mental. Experiential therapy is a necessary component in the steps towards a complete therapy. In addition to counseling and more traditional therapies, experiential is the door to the world - it forces the patient to test herself, to get up when she falls, to learn that giving up is not an option. This is a vital lesson to learn when overcoming addiction, as when problems arise after therapy, the former patient will remember that there are other means of dealing with problems than turning back to addiction.
